Farming system as a whole with agriculture, horticulture, livestock, fodder and water resource components integrated at household level.
Four specific thrust areas focused for technology introduction are:
I] Suitable Farming system development covering arid specific agri-horti- forestry components
1.Technical support for Wadi establishment as family level intervention (Combination of suitable agri+ horti + forestry species) ,Suitable forestry and fodder species . standardizing propagation techniques, adaptation trials ,Family level integration and plantation in desert common lands
2.Demo of improved seed of suitable varieties of dry land crops and salinity resistant species, salinity reduction measures
II] Water Resource Development
1. Small water storage tank, roof top rainwater harvesting, Underground tanka+ auger , well recharge
2. Scouting of any other suitable technology
3. Water use efficiency demos
4. Revival and improvisation of traditional practices of water harvesting and conservation
III] Livestock Development
1.Focus on large indigenous ruminants. Mainly studying the characteristics, suitability to local conditions , people’s preferences and selective semen collection and multiplication( Ex: Banni, Tharpakar,Gir)
2. Introduction of suitable breeding buck after characterization of goat, support for goat unit and community mobilization around livestock management activity to develop an end to end program around livestock under desert conditions
IV] Drudgery reduction interventions
- Water ,fodder, fuel and energy needs focused interventions
- Drudgery reduction related technology options – fuel efficiency, energy efficiency
- Nonfarm activity scope
